“I am working at it every morning from sunrise on, for the flowers fade so soon, and the thing is to do the whole in one run,” wrote Vincent Van Gogh. From the time he began painting in 1881 until his death in 1890, Van Gogh never stopped painting flowers—irises, roses, sunflowers, flowering branches, flowers in gardens and fields, flowers in vases and as mixed bouquets. In 1886 alone he produced 35 floral paintings, and he is known to have produced at least 10 sunflower paintings in 1888 and 1889. Van Gogh’s flowers are among his most beloved works and 13 of them are featured in this calendar, each with informative text.
